This 1916 Easter Rising Service Medal was awarded to Kathleen Lynn, Chief Medical Officer in the Irish Citizen Army. During the Rising she was stationed at City Hall. The position was captured by British forces on the evening of Easter Monday and Kathleen was arrested and imprisoned. Following her release, Kathleen remained active in the Nationalist movement; she was elected vice-president of the Sinn Féin executive in 1917, and in 1923 she was elected to Dáil Éireann. Her medal can be seen on display in the Modern History gallery at the Ulster Museum.
