During the Easter Rising Kathleen was stationed at Dublin City Hall. The position was captured by British forces on the evening of Easter Monday and Kathleen was arrested and imprisoned. Following her release, Kathleen remained active in the Nationalist movement; she was elected vice-president of the Sinn Féin executive in 1917, and in 1923 she was elected to Dáil Éireann. Kathleen was awarded the 1916 Easter Rising Service Medal.
