Explore this fascinating and challenging subject from the comfort of your own classroom in an examination of genuine rocks and minerals from ancient earth and beyond its orbit. The museum team will guide your class through an investigation of the specimens provided and discuss how they may have arrived on Earth as the planets and moons of the solar system crashed into each other or were bombarded by space debris. We’ll also explore the main features of our solar system, and learn more about how stars and planets are formed.
Pupils can use magnifying glasses provided to study each of the specimens, discover which elements they are made of, and ask us any burning questions about our solar system and the wider universe. After the session, you will have time to investigate the contents of the Into Space loan boxes further in your classroom before they are returned to the museum. The possibilities are out of this world!
